Clawson is barely two square miles, completely surrounded by Royal Oak, Troy and Madison Heights, and it has held onto a small-town downtown that the cities around it mostly lost. Fourteen Mile through the middle of town still reads like a main street, which is unusual this far into Oakland County.
Weddings here are almost always small by choice. Couples pick Clawson because they want thirty to eighty people, a room where everyone can hear the toasts, and a day that does not need a coordinator with a clipboard. Micro-weddings and intimate receptions are the norm rather than the exception.
A small guest list changes the photography for the better. There is time to actually be with people, portraits do not have to be compressed into a fifteen-minute window, and the gallery ends up weighted toward faces you recognize instead of wide shots of a room.
