Mount Clemens is the Macomb County seat, and that gives it something none of the surrounding communities have: a genuine civic downtown, a historic courthouse, and the county clerk's office where a great many Michigan marriages are actually registered. If you are planning a courthouse ceremony, this is where it happens.
The city has real architectural history behind it. It was a mineral bath resort town around the turn of the last century, drawing visitors from across the country, and the older buildings downtown still carry that scale and detail. For a small ceremony followed by portraits on foot, there is more texture within three blocks here than in most of the county combined.
Courthouse weddings deserve better photography than they usually get. The ceremony itself can be over in ten minutes, so the work is in what surrounds it: the walk in, the signing, the parents watching, and an hour afterwards in the streets and along the Clinton River while it still feels like it just happened.
