Rochester Hills has the most impressive wedding architecture in Oakland County. Meadow Brook Hall, on the Oakland University campus, is a 110-room Tudor-revival estate and one of the largest historic homes in the United States, and it anchors the way weddings here look and feel.
Estate and historic-venue weddings are a different discipline. The rooms are dark, the ceilings are high, the windows are leaded, and the light changes completely from one room to the next. Shooting them well means bringing lighting and knowing how to use it without flattening the character of a space that the couple chose precisely for its character.
The city has real range beyond the estates. Bloomer Park drops down to the Clinton River with genuine elevation, which is rare around here, and the Dinosaur Hill nature preserve gives dense woodland minutes from downtown Rochester. You can build a portrait session with grand architecture and open landscape in the same hour.
