Royal Oak has the most walkable downtown in Oakland County, and couples choose it for exactly that reason. The weddings here skew younger and more urban: a ceremony in a restored building or a restaurant, dinner somewhere with actual character, and guests who can walk between all of it without a shuttle schedule.
It is a genuinely good city to photograph in. Brick alleys, neon, older storefronts and the light spilling out of restaurants after dark give you frames you simply cannot get in a banquet hall parking lot. We do a lot of our best night work in downtowns like this one, and Royal Oak stays busy and lit long after most suburbs have gone quiet.
The Detroit Zoo sits at the north end of the city, and the Royal Oak Farmers Market is one of the more distinctive event spaces in the metro area. Both give you something recognizably local rather than a room that could be anywhere.
