Shelby Township covers a lot of ground, and that changes what a wedding day looks like here. There is far more open land than in the cities to the south, which means outdoor ceremonies, backyard receptions on genuinely large properties, and tented weddings that would be impossible on a Sterling Heights lot.
River Bends Park is the reason a lot of couples end up choosing this area for portraits. It is several hundred acres of trails, river frontage and open meadow, and at the right hour it does not look like suburban Michigan at all. The Packard Proving Grounds, with its restored 1920s buildings, is the other local landmark worth knowing about if you want something with history in the frame.
Outdoor weddings need a different kind of planning. Light moves, weather turns, and the ceremony spot that looks perfect at noon can be backlit and unusable at five. We walk the site beforehand and build the timeline around where the sun will actually be, not where it is when we visit.
